Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House, located in Sydney, was constructed by Jørn Utzon. Construction started on March 1, 1959 and the building was completed on October 20, 1973. At the time it cost $102 million dollars which today is equivalent to about $859 million dollars.
The name implies that it is a single venue, but actually houses multiple performing venues, many of which are the world's busiest performing arts centers. The Opera House hosts over 1,500 shows a year which are attended by some 1.2 million people.

It became a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site on June 28, 2007.
